how to split symetrical model in ptc creo 3.0 for simulation?
I have a model but i want to split it in half, becase i would have then a half less finite elements. It is symetrical model. Can anyone help me?
Reading Creo results
Evening All,
Has anyone come across this ...
The model was originally created in Creo2 M130 (customer)
I loaded into and ran it using Creo2 M100 (a quick review without having to install M130)
The message pops up when I try and read results I just created in M100
Being brave and confirming reads and displays results ok.
It's not a major problem; more a curiosity.
Thanks
Analysis on Assembly with compound materials
Hi I am trying to perform structural analysis on assembly consisting of parts with different materials, What will be the failure criteria on the resultant von mises stresses?
Specified rotational DOF in contact Analysis
Can we release one rotational degree of freedom in contact analysis in creo simulate. When i tried giving a specified rotation to a cylindrical part but got a warning saying "you constrained rotational DOF for an entity that does not have rotational DOF". How shall we give a specified rotation to a part and do contact analysis on it? Can anyone throw some light on this. Thanks is advance for the replies
Surface region failed after model modification. Redefining not possible.
Dear All,
A simulation has been run on a model, using surface regions. The sketches of the regions were made in the model (paramteric module) and they were the bases of the surface regions created in simulate.
I modified the model and tried to make the (same) simulation again. The surface regions failed to generate.
I tried to fix them, but there is no way to "Edit definiton" of the surface region feature.
There is an "Edit definiton" option at the sketch of surface region feature but it is not working, nothing happens.
The model has been modified but the sketch has not been modified.
Probably some surfaces (used in the surface region features) disappeared with the modifications I made on the model. I need to remove those from the definition of surface regions but it is impossible.
Seems like I have only one option: delete the surface region features and create them again. In this case I will lose lots of connections with the convection condition features in thermal mode.
Is there a way to repair failed definitions instead of redefining them? Anyone with similar experiences?
Thank you in advance!

Help with Reducing Thickness in the Basement Structure (File Attached)
Hi Everybody.
Hope you can help me, as you have done times before.
My objective is to check, once I've reduced the thickness of the Basement (from 115 mm to 90 mm), how the stress values are (lower or higher, how much higher, etc) along the Basement with a lateral force of 1000 kN.
My structure is a Cast Iron Piece of 9000 kg aprox. with 8 holes, where the screw Connection is.
8 Screws M56X200 8.8 and Preload of 1097298 N
My question, once I know my OBJECTIVE, how should I simulate this?
I attached this file if anyone wants to try.
I don't know whether I have to use the Option "Fastener" (Redifine Model>Connections>Fasteners). Because in my case I don't know what should I do.
Transient Thermal Response
This question is in regards to using the simulate analysis within the applications tab of PTC Creo Parametric 3.0. After completing a transient thermal response a plot is given of temperature vs time when choosing maximum dynamic temperature or minimum. My question is what these actually mean. Since it is only a plot and not a transient model derived. During a transient response there may be a temperature distribution throughout the model. Do these dynamic temperature either give you the maximum or minimum temperature found within the model?
Question regarding creo simulate 3.0
Hi, so I have a creo 3.0 student edition and I have a problem with the simulation taking too long to produce a result. I have set the force to be on the surface of the spring and at the bottom end of the wave spring I have set the displacement constraints. Attached is a screenshot of my part. Is there any settings that I should set in order for the simulation to produce results faster as I have 30 design of this spring with different parameters to test and it is taking a good 3 to 4 hours per analysis. Another question would be, would it be alright if I run 3 to 4 simulation at once and leave the computer overnight to get the results?
Thanks so much!
slow mechanism simulation
Some people here have reported that mechanism simulation run extremely slow. I had the same problem. I made a 8 wheel machine model, tires modelled as bushings and run a dynamic analysis with no movement. It took more than on hour to solve, but used only 3% of processor capacity (HP Z840, 16cores, 64Gb RAM).
I changed these settings and managed to reduce the solve time in to seconds.
1) mdo_integration_method = explicit (was automatic)
2) sim_solver_memory_allocation = 16384 (was 512)
3) mechanism_significant_digits = 16 (was 12)
I assume some or all of these have solved the problem, I also changed these:
4) cpus_to_use 16 (was 8)
5) transparency no (was yes)
Other experiencing similar promlems migth also try these, but still first thing to sort out is the model itself. There may be for instance typing errors in input values or incorrect units etc.
Simulation of gas springs
how can i simulate the mechanisms using gas springs . Can i use gas as a medium to apply pressure on the piston. how to simulate that kind of situations.
Thanks in advance.
Simulate fastener questions...CSV columns and edge references.
I am having some issues with fasteners not producing expected results, I am getting fasteners showing compression when there is undoubtedly a tensile load on them. I am trying to track down what the issue is, I ran the exact analysis a month ago with out any problems. After a run I open up the CSV file so I can filter desired results and I am wondering what the columns C, D, and E represent in the file. Colum B is obviously the load or stress applied to the fastener and I think column D has something to do with the thickness of the bolted joint but I have noticed that it is dependent on which side was chosen first when defining the fastener. I have a 3/4" plate on top of a 1" plate bolted and it looks like if I choose the 1" plate as the first reference it shows a -I in column D and if I choose the 3/4" plate first it shows 0.75 in column D.
To simplify the questions are....
1. What is the meaning of columns C, D, and E in the CSV output file with regards to fasteners?
2. Column D looks like it is showing the thickness of the second reference for the bolted connection along with its orientation (+/-), is this correct?
3. Does it make any difference which reference was used first which using a bolted (not screw) connection with the fastener tool?
Thanks in advance...
Anyway I can select just the top surface for my analysis?
Hi everyone,
attached in this post is a picture of my parts and the analysis that I wanna do. I have tried to set only to put a force on the top surface but this shows the whole surface instead. Anyway I can put the force on to the top surface only other than using point to roughly select?
Thanks!

Mechanism analysis
Hi All,
I have a problem, where I want to analyse how slider block can affect the guide bar. I have looked through good few tutorials on YouTube but nothing seems to match.
There is a welded frame where a slide(marked blue) is moved by hydraulic cylinder within prescribed range. In case of cylinder failure the spring through slider block marked in red would keep the slide in required position.
I have a problem constraining the sliding block. I have tried applying coincident constrains to block walls and slide slot walls, also constrain the axis on bar and slide. But not sure if that replicates the reality where (noticed from real life application) due to repeated operation the block moves out of position (black arrow) and bends the bar. I think would need to constrain it in a way that there would be a contact defined between the bar and the block, as a result I might be able to see the travel of sliding block I y direction and deflection if any on the bar.
I have ran the analysis and it shows the point did not moved at all in y direction.
Creo mechanism analysis is a new tool for me, not sure if this type of analysis is available at all, so any help is much appreciated

Total Load at Point?
I'm running a static stress analysis where the load is a Moment load about a shaft axis.
For the analysis to run successfully I have to change the load distribution from "Total Load", to "Total Load at Point." I then must pick some arbitrary point somewhere on the model. The location of this point does not affect analysis results.
Now, "total load at point" SOUNDS like, "Oh, gosh, the total moment load is going to all go through that one point."
But, no, after running the analysis we see that that point is ignored. It doesn't matter where the point is chosen.
Rather than calling it "Total Load at Point," PTC should call it, "Arbitrary reference point to be located anywhere on the modal to make Moment loads work."
Tech support couldn't given me a definition of what "Total Load at Point" means, nor could tech support tell me what the arbitrary point is for, other than it's needed to make the analysis work.
Does anyone on planet Earth have any further information on these matters?
Thanks,
Jeff
Assembly with only inherited parts and constraints
Hi!
I am going to use Creo Simulate on an assembly model that contains parts that will change slightly during the design process but still not change in such ways that it will affect anything in the simulation model like boundary constraints and so on.
Therefore I would like to create an assembly that only contains inherited parts so that I can create a simulation model of the assembly and then when the parts are changed I only have to update the parts and run the simulation again to se what effects the changes have had.
Is this possible? I have only found ways of doing it for parts and not whole assemblies.
Regards
Jimmie
Obtaining a floating Simulate license in Creo 3
I recall the ability to grab a floating license for Mechanica back in the Pro/E days. Currently I'm running Creo 3 with a PROE_Essentials license and am able to prepare a model for structural analysis (i.e., loads & constraints, mesh definition, etc.) but after "running" an analysis I get a warning/error which states my results file is empty.
It seems that the full functionality of Simulate is not available with my current license. The company does have a floating "MECBASICENG_License" license, as well as a floating "Meceng_Advanced" license. My problem seems to be determining how to grab the appropriate license to enable full analysis functionality for Simulate.
Any insight would be appreciated!

Siemens buys Mentor and it's CFD products
Really would have liked to see PTC buy this company.
They have a very nice basic CFD product that's integrated into Creo and was looking forward to the multi physics products being integrated into Creo in the future.
This most likely will not happen now with the purchase.

Creo Dynamic simulation for stress analysis
Hey everyone! I'm doing a simulation study on my graduation project. I have a ball screw and a nut assembly in which the nut is fixed and the ball screw is rotating and advancing linearly in the shaft, the cause of motion is a pulse of 780N in less than 0.6 second. Any tips on how can I do a dynamic modelling of such case?? Thanks a lot in advance.
